#HatNotHate was created in 2018 as an anti-bullying campaign by Lion Brand Yarn. Shira, the founder, has been asking knitters and crocheters to make blue hats to be sent out to schools in order to bring awareness to this problem. Since the start of this crafty campaign, over 90,000 blue hats have been collected!

This year #hatnothate has partnered with local yarn stores across the country to act as drop off points for these blue hats. Love & Stitches is honored to be a drop off point. The last time we did this, we collected over 300 blue hats. I hope we can collect even more this year so we can share blue hats with even more kids in our local area.

Here is what you need to know…

  • Knit, crochet, or loom knit blue hats
  • Hats need to fit 5 - 18 years old, 16” to 22” circumference.*
  • At least 75% blue
  • Beanie or slouchy style
  • NO BUN HATS (open hole at top for ponytail or bun)
  • Need to be received by August 1st to count for #hatnothate total.

Use this link to find a collection of free hat patterns that I have found on Ravelry. https://ravel.me/love2crochet9490/ap894o

You can use any hat pattern you like. Just be sure that it will fit a 16” to 22” head.

So far according to the #hatnothate website we are the only drop off point in New York State outside of New York City and Long Island. Tell all your yarnie friends!! Let’s see how many hats we can make and how many kids we can help this year.

* Please be aware of your gauge and hat sizes. Kids' heads are bigger than you might think. Last time we collected we needed to send many of the smaller hats to other charities because they were baby sized.
